Village Volunteers Quarterly 1.1 Thumbnail

Hello all!

Welcome to our first e-newsletter, Village Volunteers Quarterly 1.1 (Download the PDF).

It has been our longtime goal to share our successes and keep our VV community updated on the progress of programs. I want to thank Devon de Leña, 2007 Kenya alum, for stepping forward to be our E-Newsletter Editor.

There have been wonderful new programs added, improvements and exciting developments on existing programs, and many new projects. If you haven’t been on our website in a while, we update it weekly so be sure to visit us at villagevolunteers.org.

As many of you know, this year has been very difficult for our Kenyan partners, and therefore for Village Volunteers.

Through the post election riots, our good friends in Kenya have been faced with destruction and rapid inflation. To compensate for the lack of funds generated by the Volunteer Program, VV and alumni have worked hard to raise funds to continue supporting the social needs of our partner communities. I want to extend a heart-felt thanks to those of you who donated your time, energy, and funds in support of our friends in Kenya.

Fortunately we are able to send volunteers to Kenya again, and we are thrilled that many alumni are returning to Kenya to volunteer and visit old friends. Our village partners in Kenya are anxious for volunteers, so we encourage you to consider returning or help us spread the word about volunteer opportunities to your friends and community.

While the events in Kenya resulted in difficult times here in our Seattle headquarters, the friendships that we have made over the years have proved to be vital to the organization. Not only is Devon working in the office and developing her Youth Outreach Mentors (YOM) program, but we have also been joined by Kristin Ericson, 2007 Kenya alum, and Kate Harris, a University of Washington student. The time these women have donated to VV has been invaluable and they have been a joy to have in the office.
